SWASCO and its partner Vitens Evides International (VEI) wished to find an economical and operational feasible way to safeguard water disconnections in the field. The cost effective method needed to support their own official disconnection procedure and communication to the customer.
Physical solutions were brainstormed with VEI, with detailed attention on how this solution can be implemented in African field conditions.
Further investigation was done around a possible ‘plastic seal’ on the valve (in ‘switched off’ mode, and without physically disconnecting the pipe). Together with different South African manufacturers physical solutions were listed, operationally tested and assessed on different KPI’s.
